Basic Techniques
Tonguing & Articulations
In order for trombone players (and all wind players), we must use our tongue to create space between each note. The way we can do it is by using different syllables. For example, the first note can start with a "TA" syllable. This is how we Single Tongue.
In the videos below, I demonstrate how we single tongue, as well as how we double tongue and triple tongue. It is the same for both tenor and bass trombone. Multiple tonguing is done by adding another syllable that uses the back of the tongue, something like the "KA" syllable.

Glissandi
One of the easiest things that all slide trombones can do is glissandi (singular: glissando). To perform this, the player simply moves the slide with no articulations. Because the trombone has 7 slide positions, players are able to play a tritone from 1st position to 7th position in one fluid motion. This applies to the tenor and bass trombone's middle/upper register.
In the bass trombone's lower register, the interval becomes smaller when the instrument is lengthened. (see below).
